Samsung Announces Bixby 2.0- A Perfect Digital Assistant Hub for Smart Home Ecosystem

The South Korean giant, Samsung had announced the launch of Bixby voice assistant in its latest Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus smartphones during the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event 2017. Moreover, the Bixby assistant was announced back in March and its journey begins successfully with over 10 million registered users. However, during their journey, they found a lot of hurdles due to the inabilities to support voice functionality. Now, after the long gap their success journey starts again by announcing the second generation of its digital voice assistant Bixby, called Bixby 2.0.

At the Samsung Developer Conference 2017, Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung’s mobile business presented the announcement of Bixby 2.0. This big upgrade will control the company’s smart product much like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. Overall, it will act as a hub for a smart home ecosystem.

Improvements in Bixby 2.0 over Bixby 1.0

The new version will be integrated with various non-mobile devices such as smart TV, refrigerators, smartphones, home speakers and so on. It is smarter than the Bixby 1.0 with deep-linking capabilities and has more natural language capabilities. The Bixby 2.0 AI assistant identifies the user needs, response and their actions.

This update incorporated technology from Viv, so it will be able to offer new service experience for its customers and provides the most appropriate user convenient suggestions and recommendations. Additionally, Samsung is slowly moving over this upgrade to work with the third-party apps. So, other developers can add this assistant to their products.

Moreover, Samsung has given the Bixby’s 2.0 Software development kit for the particular developers through the beta program. Therefore the developers can able to use this service and can create apps for different fields such as food, travel, sports, entertainment and so on. Don’t get sad, the general availability will be arriving very soon.

Along with Bixby 2.0, Samsung Chief Technology Officer Injong Rhee also announced a Project Ambience. It is a small chip that enables the Bixby’s features in different dump products such as toys, charger, lamps and even in other smarter products.

As of now, the digital voice assistants are useful, but unfortunately it still plays a limited role in people’s day to day life. Let’s Hope, Samsung will overcome this and become a competitor for Google and Amazon.
