Intel Modems enabled iPhone 7 are Struggling Incompetently in Low-Signal Areas

Obviously we know, that the Apple Inc. consistently research, develop and launches new gadgets for their fanatic enthusiasts around the world. The recent launch iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, has all its eye catching exclusive features with the superior design, display and built quality matched with powerful system performance, which has constantly impressed and welcomed by its customers.

But now, it had went inversely, for its consumers, as they already had high expectations with those new launches. According to a recent research, the AT&T and T-Mobile variants of iPhone 7 and 7 plus with the Intel modem are facing issues on low signal areas, also they do not support Verizon and Sprint because they are incompatible to the CDMA network.

Whereas, the Qualcomm modem with the Verizon or Sprint variant of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus performs efficiently even in low signal areas and compatible to all networks. On the other hand, the one with Intel modem have shown least performance in low signal areas. Hence, these things are significantly bothering the customers.

Qualcomm modem Vs Intel modem performance, in LTE band

Previously, the Apple phones were held with Qualcomm modem for its processes, but now they have decided to make two different versions for LTE modems. Eventually that reflected in their newly launched iPhone 7 and 7 plus, where one comes with the Qualcomm modem processor and the other one with Intel modem processor.

By estimating the LTE performance in various areas, away from a cell phone tower, the graphical estimation has shown that, there is a 30 percentage gap between the Qualcomm adopted version and the Intel version.

The Cellular Insights have also tested the same with multiple LTE bands, thereby they have noticed that both the version of iPhones are performing well while on good signal strength, however with low signal strength the Qualcomm version performs the same, whereas the Intel version’s performance drops significantly, while comparing with the Qualcomm version. From this analysis, it has made the customers to target the iPhone with Qualcomm modem fitted versions.

Qualcomm Modems Offer More

Therefore customers, who have already got their latest iPhone, with the Qualcomm powered processor, are considered to be lucky, since it exhibits strong performance in LTE band and even in weakest signal areas. The Qualcomm modem is more compatible with both the AT&T and T-Mobile network and also with Verizon wireless and Sprint network, since because this Qualcomm processor supports all the available networks such as GSM/CDMA/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/LTE, unlike the Intel processor modem, which only supports the GSM/WCDMA/LTE networks.

Check the Model number to know the variant

iPhones with the model number A1660 in iPhone 7 and A1661 in iPhone 7 Plus are meant for Qualcomm modems.

And the model number with A1778 in iPhone 7 and A1784 in iPhone 7 Plus meant are for Intel modems.

Decide before you buy

Hence, if you’re planning to buy an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, take the above points into consideration. It is advisable to go for the models with Qualcomm processor modems, if you need a phone that works on all four carriers.
